My Community Gets Healthy

 
     The Lawrence Township School Foundation is partnering with several community organizations in a new initiative, My Community Gets Healthy (MCGH).  MCGH expands upon a Foundation-sponsored fitness program that is in several of our elementary schools and one middle school.

 

     MCGH will bring a comprehensive, sustainable fitness and wellness program into all Lawrence Township schools.  MCGH will involve fitness instruction during and after school and will also incorporate wellness instruction for families. 

 

MCGH’s goals are to:

  * Increase fitness awareness

  * Develop a healthy lifestyle curriculum

  * Connect resources within the school community

  * Document & measure the impact of program

    

   Over 700 Lawrence Township students are participating in the Up and Running program.  The students have been training most of the second semester.  They train two days after school with the help of mentors (teachers & parent volunteers) and they train at least one day at home.  The goal of training is to participate in the Geist Half Marathon & 5K  on May 17th.  The Foundation is hosting a spaghetti supper from 5 - 7 p.m. the night before the race at the Lawrence North Fieldhouse.

     How can you become involved? 


You can sponsor a student!  Just $25 provides the necessary funding to offer this ground-breaking health improvement program to one student this year!  If you would like to sponsor a student/s, click here.  (Please include 'MCGH' in the comment section.)  

 

We are looking for program sponsors (monetary or in kind, i.e. running shoes, T shirts, snacks).  If you would like more information, please email Christie Love at clove@msdlt.k12.in.us.

"Light Their Future" Gala

 

The 8th annual "Light Their Future" Gala was held on Friday, April 18th at the Marriott North.  Thanks to the support of our corporate sponsors, auction donors, table captains, Board members, guests and volunteers, it was a wonderful event!

We are anticipating net proceeds of over $105,000!  We wish to extend heartfelt thanks to our hard-working Gala committee!  

 

Community Investment Luncheon

 

Lawrence Township business leaders kicked off March Madness at the NCAA Headquarters on Thursday, March 20th.  One hundred fifty business leaders gathered to hear how they can make an impact on our children’s education.  Thanks to Comcast, our luncheon sponsor, Gerry Dick, Inside Indiana Business, our host, our student speakers and our guest panel, Jill Hall, Mark Herrmann & Jack Keefer.
