LTSF Announces New Leadership

The Board of Directors of the Lawrence Township School Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Ellen Robinson as its new Executive Director.

Robinson, who was selected from a field of over 55 qualified candidates, has a wealth of experience and an extensive background in not-for-profit leadership. Robinson has worked at the Wishard Foundation, managing foundation grants and overseeing development, serving as its Development Officer for two years and Manager of Foundation Grants for two years. Prior to her work with the Wishard Foundation, Ellen worked for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Indiana as Vice President of Development and Development Director.

A resident of Lawrence Township, Robinson is scheduled to begin her leadership responsibilities July 1, 2009. She succeeds long term Executive Director, Christie Love, who recently announced her retirement.

Search Committee Chair and Board Vice President Ann Updegraff Spleth advised the Board that the Search Committee believes that Robinson will bring to the Lawrence Township School Foundation "an ability to inspire, motivate, strategize, laugh, change, learn and grow." Board President, Jan Keefer, states "We are so pleased that the community of Lawrence Township, and the children in our schools, will be served by someone with the credentials and qualifications that Ellen brings to our organization. We look forward to continued growth of the Foundation and our programs under Ellen's leadership."

LT Students are Up and Running!!

700 Lawrence Township students ran in the Geist Half Marathon & 5K on Saturday, May 16th. The students trained for the event through LTSF's Up and Running program. Kids trained after school two days a week plus an extra day on their own. Mentors (teachers and volunteer parents) provided support and guidance. Up and Running is an expansion of the Foundation's nationally recognized My Community Gets Healthy (MCGH) program.

"We are working to combat Indiana's increase in obesity by providing fitness tracking equipment (heart monitors and software) for all of our Lawrence Township schools," stated Pam Day, MCGH Coordinator. "This was made possible by generous donations from the John Stewart Memorial Fund and Lawrence North alum and current NBA player, Mike Conley, Jr. We have seen kids who never exercise really getting into the program, having a good time while getting more healthy and fit." The Foundation received grants from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, Pacers Foundation and the Peyback Foundation to help this year's MCGH initiatives.

Up and Running participants enjoyed a spaghetti dinner at Lawrence North the night before the race, courtesy of Texas Roadhouse, Fishers (12950 Publishers Drive). Entertainment was provided by "Above the Garage" band.

Forest Glen Up and Running friends were excited to participate in the Geist Half Marathon & 5K.
