Sandra Bartenbach Memorial Scholarship
In memory of beloved Crestview Elementary teacher Sandy Bartenbach, a $500 scholarship is available to former Crestview Elementary students. Preference will be given to Mrs. Bartenbach’s former students.
The applicant must be:
- A former student of Crestview Elementary
- A Senior at Lawrence North or Lawrence Central High School
- Planning to attend a two or four year college or university or trade school
- A Student of high character

Dwaine Bell Memorial Scholarship
Mr. Dwaine Bell, teacher and coach in Lawrence Township schools for 25 years, lost his battle with cancer in 1983. He had a positive and genuine effect on the lives of all those who were privileged to know him.
Mr. Dwaine Bell, teacher and coach in Lawrence Township schools for 25 years, lost his battle with cancer in 1983. He had a positive and genuine effect on the lives of all those who were privileged to know him. Dr. James Teter, a protégé of Dwaine Bell, and the Lawrence Township School Foundation felt Dwaine Bell’s name and impact on the school district should be immortalized. In late spring of 1986, Dr. Teter contributed $500 to the foundation to fund the first annual Dwaine Bell Memorial Scholarship Award at Lawrence Central and Lawrence North High Schools. The Foundation established this annual scholarship award for students who have:
- A positive mental attitude
- Athletic achievements
- Overcome a hardship
- Academic achievements and activities both in and outside of school

Richard H. Crosser Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Richard H. Crosser Memorial Scholarship Fund (formerly the Crossmann Communities Scholarship) was established by Crossmann Communities in 2000 to help support Lawrence Township graduates who wish to pursue a degree in a field related to building trades.
- A senior at Lawrence North or Lawrence Central High School
- Planning to pursue a two or four year degree in a field related to building trades at an Indiana college or university
Hodgin Character Achievement Award
The Lawrence Township School Foundation established the Hodgin Character Achievement Award on November 4, 2002 in honor of Duane E. Hodgin, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Support Services for the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township.
This award is presented annually to a graduating senior who exhibits outstanding character and a strong commitment to service. The applicant must be:
- A senior at Lawrence North or Lawrence Central High School
- In the top ½ of his/her class
- Planning to continue his/her education after graduation; i.e., college, community college, military enlistment, etc.
- Exemplifying “Lifeskills for Building Character”
- Recognized by peers as a positive role mode
- An active participant in school, church, synagogue and/or community service activities

Ed Martin Legacy Fund Scholarship
In response to the passing of Ed Martin, Sr. in 2005, his family established the Ed Martin Legacy Fund through the Foundation and many individuals have contributed to this scholarship in his memory.
The scholarship is to be awarded annually, in memory of Mr. Martin, who was a successful automobile dealer.
To qualify for the scholarship, the student must be:
- Accepted to an Automotive Technology Institute
- A senior at Lawrence Central, Lawrence North or McKenzie Career Center
- In good academic standing

The selected applicant will receive a $1,500 award and will also be offered an internship at an Ed Martin Automotive Dealership. Contributions made in memory of Faith Martin will also be added to this Legacy Fund.
Lawrence Township Boys Basketball League Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes the Lawrence Township Boys Basketball League, a volunteer organization that provides basketball programs to more than 600 children annually in grades 3-8. The scholarship recognizes past participation in LTBBL, outstanding achievements in academics, and a strong record of community service with a focus on giving back to youth sports.
The initial scholarship was named in honor of Tom Ford, Founding Board member of the Lawrence Township Boys Basketball League, and it awards $1,000 annually to a senior at Lawrence Central and Lawrence North. In 2010, the LTBBL added the Rich Burd Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 to honor the memory of Rich Burd. Both scholarship opportunities are available to each applicant.
To qualify for the scholarship, the student must be:
- A senior at Lawrence Central or Lawrence North High School
- Past Participation in the Lawrence Township Boys Basketball League

Marilyn Hammer-Niehaus & Carol Hammer-Furry Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Marilyn Hammer-Niehaus and in memory of Carol Hammer-Furry—and their wonderful years at Lawrence Central High School. Marilyn Neihaus honored her family’s history in Lawrence Township by making a gift of $50,000 to the Foundation in October 2008. The income from this endowed Fund provides scholarship support to qualifying applicants.
Exceptional Lawrence Central seniors who are planning to pursue higher education at an accredited two or four year in-state college or university are qualified to apply for this scholarship. Students must start studies as a beginning freshman within nine months of graduation from Lawrence Central and are required to be enrolled on a fulltime basis (12 credit hours or more per semester) or part time basis (6 to 11 credit hours per semester) in fall and spring semesters. The scholarship provides funding of $2,500 per year for a maximum of 2 years of in-state study in which a semester GPA of 3.0 is maintained, and covers tuition, fees, and books.
To qualify for the scholarship, the student must be:
- Attend Lawrence Central High School
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and excellent SAT or ACT scores
- Be in the top 25% of their graduating class
- Have financial hardship
- Be accepted to an academic program of study in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, education, metallurgical engineering, mining engineering, and geological sciences.

The highest SAT or ACT examination scores will be used for scholarship consideration. Funds provided by these scholarships do not cover intensive English as a Second Language study.
The Edger C. Seitz, Jr./Scott A. Seitz Endowed Scholarship Fund
In February of 1999, an initial gift of $57,000 was given to the Lawrence Township School Foundation to establish the Scott Alexander Seitz Endowed Scholarship Fund. Given by the Seitz-Owings, this gift pays tribute to Scott Seitz, the grandson of Edger C. Seitz, Jr. and the son of Edger C. Seitz, III. The intent of this endowed fund is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to concentrate their studies in a healthcare field (RN, MD, physical therapist, etc.). The scholarship is renewable annually in the amount of $1,000 or more.
An additional gift pays tribute to Edger, who passed away since the original gift was made, and the name of the fund was changed to Edger C. Seitz/Scott A. Seitz Endowed Fund.

Spanish Immersion Scholarship Fund
IIn honor of the first graduating class of Spanish Immersion students in Lawrence Township, a scholarship was established in the amount of $500 to be awarded each year to a deserving student in the program. The scholarship student must:
- Be a senior at Lawrence North in the Spanish Immersion Program
- Be eligible to receive an Immersion Diploma
- Take the National Spanish Exam in their junior year
- Be in the top 1/3 of his/her class
- Be an active participant in school, community and/or service activities
- Plan to use the Spanish language after graduation

D.J. Tamer Memorial Scholarship
The Daniel J. Tamer Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of its namesake. D.J. Tamer was the valedictorian of the class of 2000 at Lawrence North High School, and a multiple letter winner in track and cross country. D.J.’s attitude allowed him to live each day to its fullest and he treated every person with respect and compassion. D.J.’s spirit and motto to “Get Busy Living” is passed on through this award.
The scholarship awards $2,000 to a Lawrence North High School senior who is planning to attend a school in Indiana, and who encompasses the traits that made D.J. Tamer so unique. The recipient must not only be an outstanding student, but must also embrace the opportunity to make the world better by looking for the good in life and bringing out the best in others.

Deb Williams Scholarship
Lawrence Central High School teachers established a memorial scholarship for their colleague, Deb Williams, who died unexpectedly in May 2006. Having taught English in Lawrence Township for 24 years, Deb was an advocate for all youth and instilled high standards for achievement in her students. The $500 scholarship is awarded to a Lawrence Central senior who aspires to follow Williams’ vocation as a teacher.

Kristan Wilson Scholarship Fund
A 2002 graduate of Lawrence Central, Kristan Wilson distinguished herself as a Top 30 student, an exceptional soccer player (4 year letterman), and an incredibly vivacious individual.
To honor Kristan’s memory, her family, Mike, Kim and Lindsay, created a scholarship fund in her name, which will be given annually through the Foundation to a deserving Lawrence Township High School graduate(s) who has exhibited outstanding academic achievement, exceptional athletic involvement and good character and citizenship. Through the generous support of contributions from the Lawrence Township family, the Foundation hopes to offer this award annually as a long-lasting tribute to Kristan.
